Spotify removes 50 million AI spam tracks from recommendations
Spotify says it has removed more than 50 million songs it considers AI-generated spam or low-quality "slop" from user recommendations over the past year. The streaming service made the announcement on Tuesday, adding that its recommendation system now highlights more music from human artists. It has also introduced an "AI Persona" badge for artists who use an AI identity and don't represent a real person, and it won't recommend their music. Spotify has stopped short of requiring labels on all AI tracks, and says listener complaints about such content have dropped.
Why it matters: If you upload music to Spotify, expect tracks that look like AI spam to be filtered out of recommendations. Spotify uses listener feedback, upload patterns and detection tools to flag them.
